Introducing the HEM27 and the HEM27EC, iOptron’s revolutionary hybrid strain wave drive mounts. These light weight, high payload tiny titans will deliver an astronomy experience like never before. Imagine a mount head weighing in at 8.15lbs with a payload capability 29.74lbs, without needing a cumbersome counterweight or shaft. Applying iOptron’s multi decade experience creating precision mounts, the HEM27 brings this vision to reality.

Utilizing state of the art strain wave drive technology for the RA movement in tandem with backlash-free DEC worm/belt drive design, the HEM27s deliver unparalleled weight to payload efficiency. Its black anodized all metal CNC machined body is not only appealing to the eye, it’s a rugged platform that will perform at the highest level for many years to come. Unique features include an electronic friction break to safely stop movement during a planned or unplanned power interruption.

A HEM27 mount can be controlled by a computer, either via ASCOM/Commander for a Windows PC or a third party INDI driver for a MacOS software; a SmartPhone/Tablet via iOptron Commander Lite or an App like SkySafari; or a Raspberry Pi device via INDI driver.

The HEM27EC features a high precision RA axis encoder that delivers incredible tracking accuracy, enough that many will choose to image “sans” guiding.

5 of 5 Perfect for my solar stuff. July 15, 2024
Reviewer: chris doole from Winnipeg, MB Canada
I absolutely love mine for solar. I use a daytime polar alignment iphone app which gets close enough, and a Hutech autoguider which plugs into the st4 port. No computers, and it tracks all day. I replaced the alignment bolts with Speedwox bolts and it couldn't be any easier to set up.

1 of 5 Disappointing May 11, 2024
Reviewer: Jochen from Germany
Successfully working with my old CEM25P , I took the chance to upgrade last year. I bought the version w/o ipolar, because my MGEM 3 guider has built-in polar alignment. But proper polar alignment, which was a 2 min breeze using optical polar scope on the CEM, is just a drag on the HEM, because the mount-tripod junction is wobbling when rotating RA for the alignment procedure. Even after 30 min, I didn't manage to get closer than 2 arcmin to the pole... The HEM 27 is lacking an optical Polar finder, so the ipolar is mandatory, which adds clutter (Laptop) to the field equipment, killing the grab&go style of the mount. This would be a great mount if it just had an optical polar scope or a cam connected to the controller to allow a simple out-of the box polar alignment. Worst of all, ipolar (which has a premium price tag) can't be retrofitted for  HEM 27 obviously.  I wonder why it got sold w/o ipolar in the first place. You live You learn-I spent 2.5 grand on an unusable mount.
