A Mount with PE Less Than 0.3 arcsec rms under $2000 - The New CEM25EC!

Center-balanced Equatorial Mount, a mount whisper quiet and light weight! The mount uses up to 60% less GOTO power consumption than other mounts in category.

With high precision optical encoder system and advanced control technology, the CEM25EC will track a star at a periodic error less than 0.3 arc second, the only mount under $2000!

The "Z" design mount puts the weight of the payload at the center of gravity allowing for greater natural stability. Given its payload capacity, this means the "Z" designed mount is unusually light. A nice benefit when setting up at a remote site. Other features include an adjustable counterweight bar to prevent obstruction with the tripod. And polar aligning is quick and accessible all the time since the polar scope is not blocked by the declination shaft.

The CEM25 is equipped with the latest advanced GOTONOVA® GOTO technology, making it one of the most powerful and accurate GOTO mounts available. Its database includes over 150,000+ objects. The Go2Nova® Hand Controller is intuitive to use and its large 4-line LCD screen simplifies the process of setting telescopes and locating objects.

The new LiteRoc tripod features a 1.75” upper leg section with a 1.5” diameter lower section (same as the old 2” tripod), resulting in a lighter tripod with stability similar to the old 2” one. It also has improved leg cuffs and sockets for further rigidity and redesigned leg lock levers securing the extensions position.

1 of 5 Poor tech support from iOptron February 11, 2020
Reviewer: Jeremy Evans from Valencia, CA United States
I purchased this after a dealer recommended it. I was looking for a mount similar to my old SkyWatcher Star Adventurer but with a higher load capacity. I was told this mount would give me accurate tracking for astro pics up to 10 min with out an auto guider. I can't even get two min! I contacted tech support and they didn't even read my concerns properly. They suggested certain settings as if I was using a computer or guider. They also said the issue is either my worm gears are damaged or my polar scope is out of alignment. Why would a new EQ mount have these issues out of the box? Tech support spoke to me as if I'm an expert. I'm an amateur and they are no help. This $2000 mount was a waste of money.

5 of 5 10 minutes unguided January 27, 2018
Reviewer: Frank Rodrick from San Diego, CA United States
I should admit I'm new to this; first EQ mount and first mount since the '90s.  So I researched and asked advice and was told I had to buy a $4000 mount (or more) that weight 70 pounds and a guider.  As a new guy, I was overwhelmed.  Too much to start with--and my lower back didn't like the sound of a 35 pound head going on a 35 pound tripod.  So I bought the CEM25EC.

My first night out I did a feeble polar alignment and an even worse one-star.  And then I set the computer to track the Orion Nebula for 10 minutes.  Sharp, round stars!  Even with my lousy focus.  Since then I haven't spent time experimenting, but the polar alignments are now quick and I'm getting two-star alignments without issue.  I've shot Orion and Andromeda (beginner stuff) using 2-to-4 minutes subs.  No tracking issues at all.  And I'm kinda wondering why I'd ever both with a guidescope!  Well, maybe later.  But I love how light this thing is, and I'm impressed with the job it's doing.

5 of 5 Excellent Tracking September 9, 2016
Reviewer: JM Dean from Catel, Guernsey, United Kingdom
This mount has excellent unguided tracking. With a 60mm, 355mm focal length and a DSLR it can track unguided comfortably for 10 minutes. I use this with my DSLR as a portable imaging platform and can be set up and imaging within 10 minutes. This mount is truly exceptional.

1 of 5 outdated electronics April 23, 2016
Reviewer: Dennis Wolfe from St. Cloud, MN United States
This mount has a serial port for attaching to a computer. The last 2 PC's that I bought had no serial port, just USB. So you need to get yourself their serial to USB adapter. I have spent hours trying to get drivers for this old technology to load into my laptop so I can control the mount. Nope. I give up. This is a new windows 10 Toshiba laptop just for controlling the mount. I could have bought a nextstar evolution for less total money. Please join the 21st century and use modern ports, you could also use a 7" tablet instead of that 4 line controller.
